Going to Montauk for a beer
I got up at 7am, had breakfast, i'm not usually an early breakfast kind of person but i learned the hard way if you don't eat before a ride you will crash and burn mid ride.
My friend and i indented to take the 10 am train to Southampton but the E train had other plans. Thanks a lot MTA! We missed the train and had to wait for the 12:00 o'clock train. So we had a cute little breakfast at the Atlantic terminal station. I felt like a rock star with my new cycling kit.
We finally boarded the LIRR and got to our destination behind schedule. We had to modify the original plan of riding 100 miles from Montauk to Brooklyn. Sometimes you have to go with the flow and make the best of it. The ride was pretty flat. i had the wind in my hair, perfect weather I thought to myself is this the high the more seasoned cyclists have been telling me about?
We came across the giant windmill and had to stop for pictures. Because If there’s no pictures were you even there lol. The weather was perfect, until we got near Montauk. Suddenly we came across this thick fog. It was like something out of a movie, the cars would disappear up the hills. I couldn't see more than half a mile ahead of me. It was a little scary , i could have ridden off a cliff but this girl loves an adventure.
When i got to Montauk all i wanted was a cold beer and a burger, my legs were screaming. We stopped at the Gigshack , they had outdoor seating and the staff was very nice. i got carded for my beer, so cute lol The ambiance was great, i have never been to Montauk in May, its a different vibe from the summer. If you live in NYC Montauk feels like your hometown, except you never lived there.
After one beer we got back on my bike and headed to the lighthouse. Despite the road being mostly flat, the road to the lighthouse was very hilly. i was a buzzed and took me sometime to get my head back in the game. i took a little tumble and scratch my elbow. No it wasn't the beer lol, a rock got the best of me. i sat down criss cross applesauce on the side of the road until i felt better. Luckily no one drove by, this would have been embarrassing. After the lighthouse we took the train from Montauk, it was getting dark, cycling at night is not one of my talents. The people on the train were super friendly and asked about our ride.
This was Probably one of the best rides I've had so far this season, the fog made it interesting, it was a satisfying feeling to reach Montauk, Im finally starting to feel confident about the European trip.
I guess what they say is true, fake it till you make it.
